Shooting Boudoir to me is all about smoke and mirrors. I mean, what can anyone really say or know about a person. Whether we know them for a few minutes in our lives in small passing moments of the day, to the decades of memories built on sharing milestones; what can one truly know about any person. I’ve always believed that we are who we say we are, and the next minute something entirely different. Removed from ourselves we can’t know what other people see. We become a person built on perception, observation, interaction and judgement but it is not the truth or the reality of a person. We are transmutable. And every time I photograph one of my boudoir/intimate portrait sessions I feel like I touch just the surface of something so powerful about us as individuals. I look at these photographs and see something different every time and each time I believe, that’s it! I caught “it”! I then look away and it’s gone. It’s just smoke and mirrors.
